Inaugural Lecture by Lucio Baccaro at UDE

In January 2025, MPIfG director Lucio Baccaro gave his inaugural lecture as an honorary professor of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE). The focus of his talk was on current and future developments in his research on the “Growth Models Approach,” an analytical approach in comparative political economy that explores how different countries develop and implement different economic growth strategies. Baccaro explained the central mechanisms that drive growth in different economic systems and analyzed the complex role of political institutions and social actors in that process, exploring among other topics the German example of an export-driven growth model. With his appointment, Baccaro will contribute to interdisciplinary research and teaching in political economy at the UDE’s Institute for Political Science (IFP) and Institute for Socio-Economics (IfSO).
