Doctoral Program
A core component of international cooperation and the MPIfG’s international reach and appeal is the International Max Planck Research School on the Social and Political Constitution of the Economy (IMPRS-SPCE). Founded in 2007, this unique doctoral program in economic sociology and political economy attracts outstanding graduate students from Germany and around the world to the MPIfG and its two IMPRS-SPCE partner universities, Cologne and Duisburg-Essen. The host institutions together offer an excellent framework and foundation for talented researchers at the earliest stages of their career. Opportunities to spend time at a partner institution in North America, France, or Italy, and to interact with visiting doctoral students from abroad who are hosted by the IMPRS-SPCE, are part of the program’s strong international orientation and its commitment to helping students gain experience, develop their research, and expand their professional networks in an international context.
