Research Group Leader Positions

We offer experienced researchers who have completed or are close to completing their habilitation the opportunity to lead a research group. Within a research group, two doctoral positions and one postdoc position are usually funded.

Research groups are initially limited to five years with the possibility of extension. You can apply for open positions 
posted by the MPIfG or through the Max Planck Society's Research Group Leader program.

Research groups can also be funded externally (e.g., from the European Research Council, Volkswagen Foundation,  Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, German Federal Ministry of Education and Research),
which offers excellent career prospects. Externally funded research groups can be established at the MPIfG with the directors' approval.
